Job Description Summary

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will join GE Systems Power Generation team and provide the technical leadership that enables innovation, engineering excellence, and quality as we meet the transforming demands of our customers, while delivering the performance and reliability that our users demand.

At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The Senior Systems Engineer will be leading systems development efforts for new product introductions. The primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Work closely with Design and Systems Teams to confirm full specification compliance and drive timely problem report resolutions.
  • Work closely with Project and Program Manager to ensure program/project plan is developed and executed properly.
  • Implement robust requirements management practices, employing industry-standard tools and methodologies to maintain traceability and manage changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct thorough system analysis to identify potential risks, dependencies, and integration challenges, proposing innovative solutions to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Requirements elicitation, derivation, and decomposition to lower-level subsystems and components.
  • Coordination with customers to work through specification derivation questions.
  • Test execution and procedure development that will demonstrate compliance to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot system failures and performance issues and coordinate with other development roles.
  • Serve as a primary technical liaison to bridge communication between customers and internal technical teams.

The Senior Systems Engineer will also work with the broader organization in delivering to shared vision and goals and, as such, will play a central role in several engineering activities including:

  • Participate in LEAN engineering activities such as release planning, concept and technical design reviews, and LEAN events.
  • Ensure cross-system dependencies and system integration activities are addressed in the program plan.
  • Ensure projects are supported through entire life-cycle from conception to post-launch.
  • Explain difficult or sensitive information and promote agreement using clear and accessible language.
  • Coach system engineers and engineering team members.
  • Assist in Model-Based Systems Engineering activities to support development of system models.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Systems Engineering role.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status.

Desired Characteristics

  • Proven track record in systems engineering, with a strong emphasis on electrical power systems in the aerospace sector.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering Experience.
  • Aerospace industry experience.
  • High degree of demonstrated accountability to program deliverables, including quality, reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Proven ability to manage risk and uncertainty for self and team within a dynamic priority-setting environment.
  • Strong technical acumen paired with the ability to understand a wide range of technology domains including data communication protocols.
  • Experience in DO-178c and DO-254 processes for developing software and complex electronic hardware.
  • Experience in executing DO-160 tests, including the development of comprehensive test procedures.
  • Experience in executing MIL-STD-160 tests, including the development of comprehensive test procedures.
  • Proficient in managing requirements using both DOORS Classic and DOORS Next Generation platforms.
  • MATLAB / Simulink experience.
