The Principal Engineer / Technologist demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within Exhaust IR/Thermal Design, be involved in long-term planning and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute the analysis, design, test, and integration of novel augmentor & exhaust system thermal design concepts to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Provide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field support
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in exhaust IR/Thermal design to anticipate, apply, adapt, or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs
  • Support internal and external customers, and suppliers as required
  • Develop lean standard practices applicable to thermal design for exhaust systems.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters
  • Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • At least 10 additional years of relevant thermal design experience.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain an active US Government security clearance.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering related to heat transfer or fluid mechanics preferred
  • Prior experience in the fundamentals of heat transfer and compressible flows.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Experience with analytical software such as NozCool, CalideNG, Flow Simulator, Ansys, Python, etc.
  • Effective in contributing in a structured, cross functional teamwork environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiar with engineering design review process & requirements.
  • Demonstrated technical program leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide others.
  • Ability to manage projects with limited guidance.
  • Fundamental understanding of augmentors and exhaust nozzle system design.
  • Understanding of materials & coatings used in exhaust systems.
  • Familiarity with ARTE or other IR design/analysis tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active US Government security clearance.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
