Job Description Summary

The Lead Engineer - Preliminary Design Mechanical Competitive Assessment will work with Edison Works Project & Engineering Systems to assess competitor's products against GE's offerings. They will model novel & derivative systems, execute design space trade studies, and assess concept strengths and weaknesses to influence GE strategic focus areas, customer requirements & proposal evaluation criteria, and to help prioritize GE technology investments.

Essential Responsibilities

In the role of Lead Engineer - Preliminary Design Mechanical Competitive Assessment, you will complete competitive assessment studies that are a critical part of GE's product strategy, which shapes business decisions on what market spaces we want to compete in and how we design our products to succeed across the whole Defense and Systems portfolio. Employees in the engineering competitive assessment role will use competitive intelligence and insights to shape our product strategy, inform leadership on the competitive landscape, and improve our understanding of competitor technical strengths and weaknesses. This will include using physics-based modeling tools unique to the preliminary design environment. In this role you will develop both technical and strategic skills to assess competitor engines and provide insights to improve GE's market position.

Additionally, in the role of Lead Engineer - Preliminary Design Mechanical Competitive Assessment, your responsibilities will include:

  • Build & execute mechanical models of competitor concept & derivative engines
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for leadership to help shape strategy
  • Coordinate with a cross-functional team of adjacent disciplines (aero, mechanical, systems) to assess technology capability & maturity
  • Execute the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and / or tasks
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited University or College
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering position
  • Current secret clearance desired. Ability to obtain secret clearance required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering position
  • Experience estimating weight, cost, and cycle design parameters early in engine development programs
  • Experience with Teamcenter & NX Manager
  • Experience with military PD tools
  • Current Secret US security clearance
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to guide and influence others
  • Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
  • Exposure to both military and commercial engine design requirements
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Systems thinking
