Job Description Summary

The On Wing Support (OWS) CVG Materials Team Leader, based in Northern Kentucky, will be responsible for leading and participating in the team that supports coordination, demand, and fulfillment of all critical material flow (including from/to external vendors, GE Commercial Spares, and within the repair and overhaul network) according to production schedules for success of the business.

This site performs maintenance on GE/CFM commercial aircraft engines in the field and in shop.

As such, the Materials Team Lead will lead the material fulfillment function and associated inventory strategy to successfully execute Gate 2 processes (repair and kitting cycle) through his or her materials team, and the technicians, production and planning team at the shop. This person will plan and at times expedite material according to the production schedule.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

The OWS CVG Materials Team Leader will be responsible for the movement of hardware within the building and to and from vendors. They will empower a team to execute within the materials discipline and also own the transactional tasks in SAP associated with the movement before and after the hardware is allocated and issued to the job. These transactions include the borrow and loans process as well as book-keeping all the transportation costs.

GE On Wing Support is a 24 / 7 / 365 operation. Applicants must be willing and able to support calls during off-hours when emergency situations arise.

In addition, the On Wing Support CVG Materials Team Lead will:

  • Implement Flight Deck (continuous improvement business system) within the materials organization with focus on 5S, Flow, Kaizen, standard work, problem solving, daily management, VSM and operating cadences.
  • Work to resolve materials issues to support OWS site with strong sense of urgency. Actively partner with Production Leader in production planning and provide inputs from materials perspective. Keep site leadership and production team informed of delivery status and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Practice effective inventory management strategy that assures site inventory levels are kept at minimal levels while still support shop operations. Help to manage inventory and participate in process and cost improvements initiatives.

    • Analyze data to determine opportunities to decrease inventory, improve customer service levels, and reduce total costs.
    • Maximize generation of operating margin & CSA productivity through rotable initiatives and used part procurement.
    • Perform routine analysis of frequently consumed part numbers and respond with effective action for kitting and bundling opportunities.
    • Manage customer-owned material.
    • Work in partnership with repair engineering to identify opportunities for material recovery.
  • Create order demand for specific instances in SAP. Decide most efficient inventory and ordering strategy (min/max, visual management, kitting, etc.) and implement. Partner with others at the site to execute indirect sourcing strategy (i.e., shop and office supplies).
  • Lead warehousing efforts and standardize processes physically and within the ERP system - receipt, incoming inspection, storage, packaging, inbound/outbound logistics, etc.
  • Understand import/export/ITC requirements and apply appropriately. Create/oversee/advise Commercial Invoices for parts/tools/materials coming into or going out of the facility. Serve as site liaison for hazardous materials and dangerous goods movements.
  • Comply with safety requirements, complete training per schedule, participate in investigations and read-across as requested, promptly identify safety issues, work with team to pursues solutions, and escalate issues. Specific focus includes use of powered industrial equipment, hazard material movements, and dock operations.
  • Participate in assessments, read across and PFMEAs to identify and understand sources of defects. Promptly identify and escalate risks to leadership and work with team on solutions.
  • Participate in LEAN events and apply learnings to daily activity. Apply and improve upon standard work in area of responsibility. Identify sources of waste and Customer dissatisfaction, escalate to leadership team and work among the team to find solutions.
  • Allocate inbound and outbound transportation costs to associated shop visit notifications in CTSI. Find and exploit cost-savings opportunities.
  • Liaison across multiple departments include both the internal team and customers to ensure seamless service.
  • Deliver "all-hands on deck" support for AOGs (Aircraft On Ground) as they arise.
  • Lead and coach a group of salaried and other salaried professionals to achieve many of the above-listed goals.
  • Availability to work flexible shift patterns as required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to support calls during off-hours when emergency situations arise.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, or materials management (or a minimum high school diploma / GED with an additional 4+ experience in manufacturing, operations, or materials management).
  • 1+ years of experience with a planning system (SAP, Oracle, etc).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of SAP ERP system, specifically the "Materials Module". Ability to demonstrate required knowledge of the ERP to ensure compliance with company materials processes and maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Analytical and computer literacy skills, including a solid understanding of spreadsheet software is also helpful.
  • Approaches work with a "can-do" attitude and a sense of commitment to both the team and customer objectives.
  • Possess a desire to learn and grow with technology advancements and new engine models.
  • Features strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed team environment and effectively perform under pressure.
  • Proven leadership experience leading initiatives of significant scope and impact.
  • Demonstrated quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs and interface with large cross-section of GE business and external stakeholders.
