Job Description

This role acts on behalf of the Certifying Agency (Special Processes Technology Center - SPTC) to provide approval and/or certification of technical plans, personnel, processes and/ or equipment associated with the special process. This role requires understanding of principles, parameters and control of Liquid Penetrant and/ or Ultrasonic Inspection Methods: effects of process variables on critical properties of items being processed.

This role will conduct examinations, training and technical evaluations of personnel to be qualified in this special process. Approve specifications of new equipment. Interface directly with suppliers and all levels of management as required. Maintain all required documentation of testing and approvals. Perform audits as required by appropriate quality standards. Provide Technical direction, and shop support. Willing to support other GE sites as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Verify conformance to specification by measuring and testing during in-house manufacturing. Perform incoming goods control, product inspections, witness points to control quality for items from external suppliers.
  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in NDT)
  • Minimum of 3 years with Liquid Penetrant and/ or Ultrasonic Inspection Methods in Aviation

Desired Characteristics

  • Additional NDT Experience with other methods (RT, ET and/ or MT)
  • Current ASNT Level III Certification(s)
  • Familiar with Quality/Lab Systems
  • Familiarity with GE Aerospace Processes
  • Familiarity with controlling documents, design practices, specifications. (GEAE Quality Systems, drawings)
  • Knowledge of metallurgy
  • A combination of experience and or education that leads to shorter CA qualification time.
  • Held an NAS410 Level II certification in any of the mentioned NDT methods for 4 years, 2 year with an Associate's degree or 1 year with a Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering.
  • Ability to cover all shifts and multiple locations as required.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and promote change
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, as needed.
