Job Description Summary

The Special Military Programs Advanced Lead Engineer for Engineering Material Systems (EMS) will work with a team of material application and development engineers to identify, develop, and mature materials and processes (M&P) technology to meet military program objectives and external customer expectations. The candidate for this position will partner and work with personnel from various engineering disciplines, management, and technicians every day in an office and laboratory environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Create and execute materials characterization and mechanical property test programs with the appropriate EMS team(s) to deliver test data and generate design curves required to achieve program milestones.

• Communicate new, innovative M&P technologies to internal and external customers that can increase product performance, increase part life / durability, and / or reduce product cost (technology push).

• Mature the technical readiness level of ceramic-matrix composite and other advanced material systems for structural applications.

• Recommend approaches to solve materials and manufacturing process-related issues utilizing current best practices to influence high-risk items and improve designs.

• Lead the execution of M&P technology development programs with the cognizant EMS manager(s) and be responsible for meeting technical deliverables, schedule / milestones (TRL / MRL), and finances.

• Ensure the completion of any action items assigned from various reviews and the associated documentation.

• Support delivery of raw material / finished parts to meet test plan / schedule.

• Provide the appropriate M&P input to customer reports, contractual deliverables, certifications, and other required documentation.

• Assist in developing and revising documents and technical requirements

Qualifications/ Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in materials science, materials engineering, or closely related technical field from an accredited college or university.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position

• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Secret Clearance

Desired Characteristics:

• 5+ years' experience with materials application engineering, materials development, and/or engineering program management

• 3+ years experience with gas turbine materials and processes

• Experience in composite and/ or coatings materials related to supporting the manufacture, design, and testing of both PMC and Ox-Ox CMC composite components.

• Strong leadership skills and experience

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.

• Existing DoD Security Top Secret or Secret Clearance

• Experience proposing new technical programs including budget and timing estimates

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
