Job Description Summary

The Military Performance and Operability Distinguished Staff Engineer will provide technical leadership for strategic and tactical deliverables. This role involves partnering with the engineering section leader, systems leadership, and performance design leaders to execute programs robustly and timely, considering system-level risk and customer input. The engineer will possess deep knowledge of engineering processes and a proactive mindset, enabling strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, including the Chief Engineer's office, Design Boards, Project, and Supply Chain. Responsibilities span both Sustaining and NPI engineering programs.

The role requires significant cross-functional integration within and outside engineering, focusing on implementing lean initiatives. Objectives include program execution deliverables and ownership of key Enterprise processes, driving excellence across the integrated performance and operability organization. The engineer will lead root cause investigations, corrective actions, cross-program initiatives, and mentor performance program leaders.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic programs that synthesizes insights across multiple technical areas to create actionable, large scale impacts and coach others on this skillset.
  • Drive strategic systems thinking, risk abatement, and problem solving and apply learnings within and across the department.
  • Own significant projects or programs that span the department/site, multiple engine models/airframers, or complex fleets while balancing business and technical objectives.
  • Work closely with the systems organizations on assigned programs to define and execute IPO strategy to ensure performance targets and program milestones are met.
  • Coach, train, and mentor within Military Performance and Operability, as well as, across the Science Department
  • Apply SQDC (Safety, Quality, Deliver, Cost) prioritization within leader standard work.
  • Work with teams in the development of KPI's and action plan generation in support of strategic initiatives.
  • Coach at point or structured problem-solving techniques as well as continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead structured problem-solving and drive corrective action, as needed, on more complex problems.
  • Use expertise to develop strategies and roadmaps to improve products/processes, to guide teams in high-complexity programs, and/or for Hoshin Kanri priorities to continuously improve the capability, efficiency, and responsiveness of the Integrated Performance & Operability organization.
  • Advocate for IP awareness and identify opportunities within the performance and operability disciplines, and provide recommendations to the CTH/Design Board IP processes.
  • Participate as reviewer in program reviews and non-advocate reviews for NPI and sustaining programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • At least 8 years of experience in performance or related discipline.
  • Ability to obtain US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level

  • Demonstrated expertise in cycle modeling, data analysis, model matching, test planning & execution, airframer integration, production support, field support, and supporting military qualification programs.
  • Experience integrating with performance adjacent aero-thermal disciplines
  • Strong business acumen and customer mindset
  • Existing US Government Security Clearance at the Secret level
