The Materials Repair Development Engineer works within a team of skilled materials engineers and process experts to provide materials and process definition, manufacturing qualification, and lifecycle support of jet engine hardware. In this role, you will partner with repair services engineering and repair supply chain to ensure product conformance to technical requirements to achieve customer satisfaction and ensure hardware safety and durability. You will provide materials and process (weld, braze, heat treat, coatings, etc.) expertise to support repair engineering in the substantiation of fielded metallic components repair developments. You will also get the opportunity to lead repair development efforts which include establishing feasibility, technical reviews, and support the implementation of technology into the repair shop. You will have significant input into your yearly priorities.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Understand and apply technical requirements from engine manuals, repair documents, specifications, and engineering drawings that impact materials and processes and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
- Define and substantiate material and process selections on new repairs & repair updates; Define process limits and technical requirements.
- Propose repair solutions to address complicated manufacturing challenges with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.
- Support MRO shops (internal and external) including but not limited to repair development trials, process improvements, substantiation package reviews, and overall cost out initiatives.
- Evaluate, compare, and obtain material property data to guide material selection for component improvements.
- Research component history and material properties to apply lessons learned from field experience, manufacturing evolutions, and development programs.
- Perform metallurgical evaluations of engine run hardware and manufacturing issues.
- Document and communicate investigation results through technical reports.
- Identify Materials and Process technology gaps and propose solutions for component durability or future designs.
- Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to support strategy.
- In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Uses technical skills, analytical thinking, multiple internal and limited external sources to solve problems and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters with guidance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university with at least 5 years of experience in industry.
Desired Characteristics
- B.S, M.S. or PhD degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgy from an accredited college or university
- Familiarity or research in the following competencies:
- Aerospace industry
- Titanium alloys, Nickel-based superalloys, ceramic coatings, additive manufacturing, welding, or brazing
- Characterization (metallography and fractography)
- Experience with manufacturing, quality systems or component field support
- Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, strategically prioritize work
- A self-starter with an eye for problem solving and driving solutions
- Proven facilitation and collaboration skills in multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
