Job Description Summary

As the Materials Leader, you will be responsible for managing and accelerating the movement of materials from suppliers and across departments to meet production timelines. You will plan and schedule material and production needs, influencing strategies, projects, and programs within the functional area or business unit, thereby impacting operational methods. Your role will focus on improving the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team, and you will play a key role in setting priorities. You will operate under professional guidelines and policies pertinent to the role, with moderate autonomy and a need for strong operational judgment.

Reporting to the Site Leader, this pivotal leadership position is essential for ensuring successful delivery fulfillment, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction at the Dowty facility in Sterling, VA. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills in communicating and implementing the strategy and objectives of the Dowty business, while also being capable of setting and achieving goals for both themselves and their team.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead both short and long term business goals
  • Management of a team of Materials personnel
  • Operational responsibility for materials supply inventory & fulfillment
  • Setting departments KPI (predictive where possible) and holding team accountable to achieve these
  • Act as a point of escalation for planning and materials teams, driving forward key issues with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure full kit availability to the business in line with the plan
  • Inventory Management
  • Responsible for the Material Deflation for the site
  • Oversee the Materials Fulfillment role
  • Staff Management & Development
  • Drive positive change with the team to continuously improve internal processes along with external supply of materials
  • Understand the business strategy and anticipate requirements for the organization delivery of this strategy
  • Implement and lead material strategy for the product line.
  • Work closely and effectively with the site leadership team
  • Interface with key stakeholders both internal and external to the Dowty Sterling site

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 9 years of experience in Supply Chain and/or Materials Management)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Supply Chain and/or Materials Management experience
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Ability to manage and further develop a team to support the business requirements.
  • Experience in the Manufacturing & Materials Planning and Execution.
  • Experience using ERP system, Oracle preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
  • Advanced experience in Materials Planning and Execution

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
