Job Description Summary

In this role you will be part of the Hot structures design team in Advanced Mechanical Design organization. You will take part in the latest GE product design through technology maturation programs. You will have the opportunity to work and lead projects on different engine modules and design components for product level or for RIG Testing as well as test support. You will work in close cooperation with other global sites and test cells around the world. The role Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Essentai Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of structural components in the GE's RISE program using sound mechanical engineering principles and adhering to business standards, design practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • An individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills. Provides informal guidance to new team members.
  • Demonstrates domain expertise in the design of engine structural components.
  • Adds value through innovation, process improvements and clear thinking.
  • Executes on aspects of mechanical design engineering - material selection criteria, failure modes, evaluation methods (hand calculations & finite element analysis) with some guidance.
  • Responsible for planning of technical tasks and project activities. Understands & appreciate tasks & their relation to overall project scope.
  • Mechanical design owner of simpler structural hardware.

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • B. Tech. / M. Tech. / Ph. D. in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 5+ years of relevant experience on design/analyses of gas turbine components.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering design & analysis concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own & deliver on program in time with quality.
  • Working expertise on FEA packages like ANYS or similar.
  • Exposure to elements of structural hardware design cycle - component function, models, life assessments, materials, manufacturing, testing & production.
  • Understanding of overall product life cycle...TRL and MRL processes, NPI and beyond.
  • Strong team player that believes in team success supersedes individual success.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Aviation and Gas turbine domain knowledge.
  • Understanding & exposure to CDN / Hot structural h/w in gas turbines.

  • Demonstrated ability of working in a matrix organization.
  • Understanding and exposure to conventional and advanced manufacturing methodologies.
  • Exposure to risk burn down process and technology maturation cycles.
  • Exposure to Lean and other statistical, digital methodologies for problem solving.
  • Ability to document, plan, market and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work with across multi-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems.
