In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

As a part of Avio Aero Engineering Material Systems team you will support and lead Failure Analysis investigations and laboratory tasks on Avio Aero Civil and Military fleet components.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Define, lead and perform failure analysis investigations on components undergo anomalous behavior.
  • Establish a collaborative network with global Engineering Material Systems Failure Analysis experts.
  • Work closely with Senior Technical Expert communities, support and guide TOPS8D, RCCA and 5 whys methodologies in order to understand anomalous behaviors on Avio Aero components or events experienced on the fleet and propose possible path to face issues.
  • Support and lead long term research and development programs on materials and processes. Execute developmental testing programs and hardware test campaigns to qualify part processing.
  • Help in identifying partners (i.e. Universities, Research Center and strategic suppliers), build suitable plans to reach feasibility studies and understand the go/no-go criteria for materials and technologies selection.
  • Support and lead collaborative cross-functional teams (materials, design, manufacturing) to reach the technical maturity of advanced manufacturing methods through the TRL / MRL processes.
  • Plan, advocate and manage budget for failure analysis and Engineering Material Systems laboratory.
  • Get the ownership of periodic status reviews and give updates to senior leadership.
  • Support and execute technical projects & programs required to reduce technical risk associated with new material and manufacturing methods, build and leverage significant domain expertise in the advanced materials field.
  • Develop and maintain a productive working climate, promoting global teamwork and cross-functional efforts to achieve and maintain excellence.
  • Interface and collaborate with Design Engineering, Global Research & Supply Chain to establish requirements for materials and special processes including material characterization, mechanical properties, heat treatment, LAB testing and as necessary to ensure proper quality of components.
  • Support and manage resolution of material processing related issues encountered during manufacturing, both internally and at suppliers level, with impact on the system life cycle.
  • Review material chemistry, physical and mechanical properties to substantiate manufacturing processes and detect trends that may indicate undesirable changes in product quality.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or other related engineering discipline.
  • Involvement or direct experience in Failure Analysis investigations.
  • Involvement or direct experience in research activities.
  • Solid technical and program management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Italian and English (both written and verbal).
  • Work Visa, in accordance with local regulation, is required

Desired Characteristics

  • PhD in Materials Science or related disciplines.
  • Experience in an engine system-related role.
  • Green belt or Black Belt certification and/or Statistics knowledge
  • Proven self-starter and independent worker who can work with cross-functional teams.
  • Involvement or direct experience on aerospace processes
  • Fast in action but with detailed technical review and good documentation
  • Experience in a materials science engineering position.
