Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Execute both independently and as part of a team, materials engineering review and analysis, preparation of test plans for material and hardware evaluations, material and process recommendations, review with engineering leaders as required and other materials engineering support activities.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
  • Document and communicate results of technical data generated
  • Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives
  • Share engineering information and promote open dialogue
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • In addition to composite and/or other non-metallic related tasks, it can be required to be assigned for metallic materials related tasks and ownerships.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in engineering
  • Expertise / experience in composite materials applications engineering related to supporting the manufacture, design, and testing of Polymer Matrix Composite components.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiar with process modeling and / or strong computational skills that could be developed for this capability
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to successfully work in a global team environment
