As the GEnx Cold Section Design Engineer you will be contributing to the design and development and substantiation of repairs for a variety of HPC components, with an initial focus on cold airfoils. This role will include activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components, impacting departmental operations, and managing the execution and delivery of various projects. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within the GEnx team and ownership over the cold section module and commodities. Some judgment and project management may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Initial focus of role primarily on interdisciplinary repair prioritization and design substantiation development for the HPC module.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects, potentially across commodities (but primarily in cold airfoils and rotors), and organize complex repair requirements into an executable design plan from substantiation through industrialization.
  • Capability to understand business implications of factors like repair and recovery yield changes, project completion timing, shop visit workscope escalations impact, and repair feasibility when prioritizing and executing repairs.
  • Work closely with repair, shop, and MCRB focals to align on project status and prioritization.
  • Quick adaptation to different substantiation requirements of various types of hardware and ability to learn analytical tools to support each kind.
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum three years of experience in Design Engineering
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Onsite/Hybrid work model- remote work is not offered for this role.

Desired Characteristics

  • Background in turbomachinery design engineering on fielded commercial products.
