Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
• Leading, motivating and inspiring the legal and contracts professionals who support Unison, including both the direct reports and the dotted line reports.
• Serving as a business partner by applying business and legal judgment to issues requiring legal, reputational or compliance attention.
• Driving continuous improvement in commercial contracting and other processes.
• Reviewing and monitoring regulatory changes and advising the business on the full range of legal issues affecting the business.
• Partnering with the business to drive the product regulatory and safety strategy and process.
• Providing leadership on risk mitigation in a fast moving and still-evolving industry; proactively implement risk mitigation processes.
• Overseeing and partnering with the broader dotted line legal team on Unison matters, including litigation, EHS, IP, leasing, and government contracts.
• Managing outside counsel on site related matters.
• Developing processes; driving legal productivity, simplicity and standardization.
• Providing advice and counsel with regard to transactions.
• Providing legal support to business on disputes or similar issues.
Requirements
• Proven team leader who can influence across the matrix.
• Agility and confidence: you need to be comfortable with, and capable of, filling multiple, shifting roles while working autonomously.
• You will provide input on business strategy; you must be willing to engage leadership (business and functional) constructively at every level.
• You need to put a premium on brevity and completeness in all communications; you need to have a sense of urgency about everything you do while being patient about the level of understanding in the business about certain legal issues.
Minimum Qualifications
• You must have been a lawyer for at least 10 years.
• Juris Doctorate from accredited university.
• Member in good standing with the State Bar.
• Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively and the ability to make on-the-spot risk calls with limited information.
