Job Description

GE Aerospace Research is looking for an Inspection and AI intern for our Advanced Manufacturing Lab. As an intern in the Advanced Manufacturing Lab, you will collaborate with leading researchers and scientists on developing manufacturing and inspection processes for GE Aerospace and its customers. The role focuses on the research and development of cutting-edge inspection solutions leveraging machine learning principles. Success in this position requires knowledge in the principles of nondestructive evaluation, signal/image processing, and machine learning.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to research and development activities in the fields of inspection/nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques, image and signal processing, physics informed neural networks (PINN), and computer vision.
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers to demonstrate proof of concept of novel scientific machine learning principles to solve inspection problems in the aerospace industry.
  • Participate in defining inspection project requirements, formulate plans for assigned tasks, and work directly with project leaders to track progress.
  • Effectively communicate results by preparing written reports and delivering oral presentations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment in a full-time Ph.D. program at a U.S. university in the field of engineering, Math, Physics, or relevant fields.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 / 4.0 scale.

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Strong knowledge of inspection/NDE techniques, physics informed neural networks (PINN)/scientific machine learning, signal/image processing, and computer vision.
  • Proficiency in computer programming languages, such as Python and C++.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and Tensorflow.
  • Excellent team work and communication skills, with ability to conduct independent research.
  • Demonstrate knowhow and experience in (1) thermographic and/or acoustic NDE/inspection, (2) signal/image processing, and (3) PINNs through research projects at the university or in the industry with record of publications in peer-reviewed journal or conference proceedings.
  • Experience using NVDIA's modulus.
  • Two or more years of computer programing experience in Python.
  • Strong influencing skills with project teams and leadership.

The pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 USD weekly. The specific weekly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. GE provides travel reimbursement and housing stipend for qualified interns.
