Job Description Summary

The Sub-Section Manager for Flight Safety, Commercial Engines is responsible for ensuring product safety and reliability, aligning with functional, business, and company objectives. Key responsibilities include performing system safety trade studies/analyses, supporting the safety management system teams, and ensuring product reliability. The role involves implementing and enhancing safety policies and procedures and managing safety-related certification efforts while promoting a safety culture. This position reports to the Executive Commercial Flight Safety Leader.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical direction for assigned program tasks and personnel.
  • Advocate for enhancements in fire safety and reliability for new aircraft engine designs, adhering to technical and program requirements.
  • Partner with Product Line Engineering teams to develop, drive, and support reliability goals and requirements.
  • Promote industry presence and partnerships; this will include influencing and developing technical standards for fire prevention and testing.
  • Represent the Flight Safety Office in appropriate program meetings to ensure compliance to the policies and procedures set in place. Promote a safety culture within the enterprise.
  • Provide support, council, and recommendations to section management.
  • Establish work group goals within framework of section technical and financial objectives.
  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer/program needs.
  • Facilitate communication of technical and business information between organizations and within work group
  • Communicate with management on technical, organizational, resource and personnel issues.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for assigned personnel.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and participate in salary planning.
  • Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counseling.
  • Ensure company compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented within work group.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or high school diploma/GED with 6 years' experience in systems engineering).
  • At least 5 additional years of experience in a program or project leadership role within an engineering environment
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

  • Knowledge of safety risk assessment generation, interpretation and presentation
  • Ability to travel globally.
  • Experience with the Flight Safety & Reliability tasks for Commercial / Military programs through the product life cycle; including design, product risk assessments, hazard tracking, accident/incident record maintenance, and accident incident investigation.
  • Act as a change agent to bring common safety & reliability process to Commercial & Military programs.
  • Should be willing to become an accident investigator.
