Job Description Summary

This role is within the Commercial Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Nozzle Mechanical Design team, where you will be working on CMC components within the High-Pressure-Turbine (HPT) of the GE9X Commercial Turbofan Engine. The GE9X Engine has achieved type certification and is working towards entry-into-service.

The Engineer will be responsible for supporting and leading projects for CMC Nozzle HPT hardware and/or interfacing metallic components. Tasks may include improving component durability, supporting product delivery, making changes related to part producibility, supporting engine testing, and providing input on fleet findings. The individual will be accountable for the quality of own their own work and will be reliant on guidance from their supervisor and technical mentors on the team.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

- Developing conceptual knowledge of jet engine design, turbine design, and CMC design. May include support roles with specialized expertise or technical knowledge in adjacent areas like composites manufacturing, component testing, and material behavior.

- Applies general knowledge of mechanical engineering through education or past experiences. Understands how work of own team contributes to the GE9X program and CMC Integrated-Product-Team (IPT).

- Resolves issues using established procedures. Deliberately consults supervisor or more senior team members to understand issues outside of defined work scope or expertise.

- Collaborates with cross-functional team and presents outcomes to technical and business leaders.

- Exchanges technical information, asks questions, and checks for understanding.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or similar STEM field and at least 2 years of relevant engineering work experience, OR a Master's Degree from an accredited university in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or similar STEM field.

- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics:

- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

- Willingness to learn and ambition to work with new technologies.

- Knowledge of jet engine fundamentals, CMC design, or turbine design.

- Experience working with engineering drawings, computer aided design (CAD), and communicating design requirements to other teams.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
