Job Description Summary
An EHS Specialist will need to communicate with a variety of people, including technicians, engineers, managers, other GE resources, and state or federal regulators. Verbal and written communication skills will be key to train and educate site employees on the dangers and risks associated with EHS activities across the site.
An EHS Specialist must have excellent attention to detail to ensure they follow all regulations and safety procedures for EHS tasks but especially when supporting regulatory activities such as handling and disposing of hazardous materials. A specialist will be expected to maintain training and certifications to support waste management along with other EHS activities as assigned.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Individuals located at manufacturing sites and fixed facilities (e.g., a service shop or O&M site) that provide day-to-day EHS support for that facility.
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
- Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of EHS experience)
Desired Characteristics:
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Environmental Science from and accredited college or university
- Basic Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong organizational skills
- Qualified RCRA training for an LQG
- Qualified DOT training for Hazardous Materials
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to mentor/ train others effectively
- Ability to see and drive activities compliant with regulatory requirements
