Job Description Summary
The Asheville Deburr Operator will perform a variety of hand contouring tasks, including manually removing burrs created after the machining process, on complex aviation engine hardware. This position also requires the ability to generate break edges, round edges, and chamfer on different types of exotic metals including, titanium, stainless steel, inconel, and rene. Required to utilize hand tools such as, pencil grinders, 90-degree grinders, and straight grinders and have the ability to operate a drill press. This positions also requires the ability to hand polish parts to required surface finish and the ability to inspect generated features for conformance.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Ability to read, understand, and follow process operation sheets, tooling sheets, and tech plans
- Hand contour edges to achieve tight tolerance dimensions using numerous hand tools, grinders, and polishing equipment with attention to detail working to production planning. Required to contour all types of material used within GE Aviation Asheville machine shops.
- Perform work to an appropriate visual standard and check dimensions generated with contour readers and other measuring devices while maintaining quality to achieve very critical tolerances and surface finishes.
- Perform very delicate operations to polish surfaces, blend radii, deburr slots, holes, or other features generated by more complex machining processes.
- Must have the ability to obtain the CVP certification within six months and maintain recertification annually. Training will be provided.
- Responsible to voucher or account for own time accurately using the prescribed system, as well as electronically and manually maintain records.
- Responsible for accurately serializing parts to maintain traceability at all times. Responsible for keeping facilities, material, and work area orderly exercising care in their use, maintaining good housekeeping practices.
- Must sit and stand in restrictive positions for long periods of time as well as stoop, bend, and move wrists, arms, and shoulders continuously while generating edges with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must have the ability to work in normal conditions found in a machine shop including exposure to dirt, dust, noise, and metal particles due to tooling required to generate edges with or without reasonable accommodation. Must have ability to wear designated PPE.
- Cranes and material handling equipment are expected to be used instead of manual lifting and carrying. However, employee may be required to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. to comply with all EHS and Quality requirements
- Active participation in daily team meetings and activities, cooperates and relates well with others, practices direct professional communication with team members, and is open to new ideas from team members and considers opinions different from their own.
Basic Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma, or GED equivalent
- One year experience working from detailed instructions and planning required
- One year experience reading simple blueprints, and the ability to perform simple arithmetic such as addition, subtraction of decimals and fractions required
- One year experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.) required
- Commitment to workplace safety (of self and others), quality and integrity of work performed
- Ability to work overtime (OT)
- Experience working with your hands in finesse work such as auto body work, carpentry, metal polishing, deburring, etc.
Desired Qualifications:
- 1-year machining certificate or 2 years machining experience (ex. turning, milling, grinding, etc.)
- Flexibility to work all shifts on a temporary basis to meet business needs (ex. training, temporary coverage, etc.)
- Ability and willingness to balance multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability with computer applications (Outlook email, shop floor applications, etc.)
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
- Participation in improvement events/ activities
- Willingness to train other employees and cross train when needed
