The CMM Technician in Aerospace is responsible for performing inspections of aerospace components using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CMM machines (both manual and automated) to inspect aerospace components for dimensional accuracy, including measurements of surfaces, threads, and other complex features.
- Inspect incoming, in-process, and outgoing parts to verify that they meet engineering and quality specifications.
- Perform detailed inspections of machined parts and assemblies to ensure they meet engineering drawings, aerospace industry standards, and customer requirements.
- Verify the dimensional accuracy of parts, checking for compliance with tolerance limits and ensuring that parts meet required specifications.
- Record and document inspection results, including detailed reports of measurements, discrepancies, and findings.
- Provide accurate and timely inspection data for quality control documentation and communicate results to supervisors, engineers, or other relevant team members.
- Regularly check and calibrate CMM machines to ensure precise measurements and document calibration activities.
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure CMM machines are operating at peak performance.
- Work closely with engineers and other quality control personnel to address any quality concerns or non-conformities during the inspection process.
- Communicate any deviations from specifications promptly and assist with corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
- Suggest and implement improvements to inspection processes, including recommending new tools, practices, or technologies to improve measurement accuracy or efficiency.
- Stay current on CMM technologies and industry standards to maintain the highest level of inspection quality.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree or certifications in related fields preferred).
- 2-5 years of experience in CMM inspection within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the aerospace industry.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in operating CMM machines for inspection purposes, including knowledge of various measurement tools and techniques.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with aerospace quality standards, such as AS9100.
- Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accurate and precise inspection results.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues during inspections and assist in resolution.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing or precision inspection.
- Familiarity with inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.
- CMM Inspection Certification or equivalent quality control certifications.
