Job Description Summary
The CMM Operator will operate and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to perform precise dimensional inspections on manufactured parts and assemblies. The role involves interpreting blueprints, using metrology software, and ensuring that products meet quality and engineering specifications. The CMM Operator will also be responsible for documenting inspection results and working closely with other departments to resolve quality issues.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate CMM Equipment: Set up and operate CMMs to perform inspections on a variety of parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Programming: Write and edit CMM programs using metrology software MCOSMOS to automate inspection processes.

- Inspection and Measurement: Perform dimensional inspections on first articles, in-process parts, and final products using the CMM and other precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and customer specifications to determine measurement requirements.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Record and analyze measurement data to ensure compliance with tolerances and specifications. Identify and document any non-conformances.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of CMM equipment to ensure accurate and reliable operation.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed inspection reports, including measurement data and any deviations from specifications. Maintain accurate records of inspections and equipment calibration.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection processes, reduce measurement variability, and improve product quality.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in metrology, manufacturing technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CMMs in a manufacturing or quality control environment. Experience with CMM programming is required.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CMM operation and programming (Mitutoyo, Mcosmos, or similar software).
- Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with various precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Strong math skills required.
- CMM fixture design experience is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot measurement issues.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move equipment as needed.
- Visual acuity to inspect small parts and read detailed engineering drawings.
Work Environment:
- The position is primarily based in a manufacturing or quality control environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and potential hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
Pay
The pay for this position is $26.00 an hour. This posting is expected to close on January 31st, 2025.
