In this role, the CMC Repair Materials Strategy Leader will own the strategy and execution of Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) and Environmental Barrier Coating (EBC) repair development programs in support of the GE9X engine platform. This leader will guide a multi-disciplinary and cross-functional team to success by establishing feasibility, leading technical reviews, and supporting the repair industrialization in the repair shop. This leader will execute repair developments through the Repair Readiness Level (RRL) tollgate process. In this role, high levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes. This leader will manage and communicate technical and programmatic risks to senior leaders. Documents and shares lessons learned within and outside organization. Actively engages in mentoring and advancing the technical competency across the team.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) materials, Environmental Barrier Coatings (EBC), and processes undertaken to repair jet engine components.
  • Leads others to find creative solutions within complex CMC repair processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Employs sophisticated operational/product management, manufacturing or engineering techniques. Interaction with adjacent functions needed to solve issues. Has the ability to evaluate quality of information received and questions conflicting data for analysis. Uses multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
  • May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business or technical discipline solutions to leaders. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view.
  • May own and manage key business metrics and other leading indicator metrics which includes communicating status to leadership, escalations to leadership, and owning escalation follow-through.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum seven years of experience working within the aerospace industry
  • Experience working with CMC materials and/or EBC coating systems
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

Desired Characteristics

  • CMC and EBC mechanical or materials design and or manufacturing experience
  • Prior experience working in repair
  • CMC shop / component manufacturing knowledge
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems (TOPS8D Process)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Established project management skills
