The Calibration Engineer is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all measurement and testing equipment used in the production of aerospace components. The Calibration Engineer will also collaborate with other departments, such as quality control, engineering, and production, to maintain the precision of manufacturing processes and meet regulatory requirements. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of inspection tools, gauges, and equipment used to assess product quality and devices for monitoring and control manufacturing processes, ensuring the production of high-quality components that meet stringent safety and performance standards.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular calibration of measurement tools, gauges, and test equipment (e.g., CMMs, micrometers, torque wrenches, pressure transducers, temperature sensors).
  • Ensure the calibration of both in-house and outsourced equipment to meet internal and external standards.
  • Develop, implement, and update calibration procedures for manufacturing systems to ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, AS13100, ISO/IEC 17025 and aerospace-specific regulations.
  • Conduct uncertainty analysis to assess the accuracy of measurement systems and minimize potential errors in the calibration process.
  • Use statistical methods to quantify uncertainty and ensure the reliability of instruments and measurement systems.
  • Work with production and quality control teams to incorporate uncertainty analysis into calibration protocols.
  • Review and analyze instrument variation reports to ensure the consistency and accuracy of calibration results.
  • Identify performance deviations and recommend corrective actions to prevent production delays or quality issues.
  • Maintain records of instrument performance trends and deviations, ensuring traceability for audits.
  • Evaluate risks associated with calibration discrepancies that could affect safety, compliance, or product quality.
  • Implement preventive actions, including adjusting calibration intervals and upgrading equipment when necessary.
  • Oversee the calibration and maintenance of all measurement equipment used in the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure all measurement and control systems are calibrated on schedule to avoid production delays.
  • Monitor equipment performance and compliance with calibration standards.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of calibration activities, certificates, and reports to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance (QA) teams to ensure all documentation is in place for audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure calibration activities meet the requirements of external audits and regulatory agencies.
  • Continuously assess and improve calibration processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Explore new calibration technologies and methods to enhance manufacturing quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve calibration discrepancies, performing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Train production and engineering teams on calibration procedures and best practices to ensure accurate measurements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Additional certification in calibration is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in calibration engineering, preferably within aerospace manufacturing.
  • Experience with precision measurement tools, calibration methods, and aerospace-specific regulations (ISO 9001, AS9100, AS13100, ISO/IEC 17025).
  • Proficiency in performing uncertainty analysis and reviewing instrument variation reports.
  • Strong knowledge of calibration standards and methods specific to aerospace manufacturing.
  • Expertise in operating and calibrating measurement tools such as CMMs, laser trackers, and surface profilometers.
  • Proficiency in using calibration software and managing calibration records.
  • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and the ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
