Responsible for designing , developing and testing Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control and runs on devices that need to be tailored to the needs of the hardware that it has to control and run on (i.e. directly controls the real time functions of a physical device such as motors, alternators, engines, valves, fans, and other devices and products).

Typically requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of the physical device being controlled, the real-time functions it is expected to perform and the ability to design, develop, implement, and test the logic and software required to realize the real-time functionality. Usually tailored for products and services across various P&Ls. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description

As an Advanced Lead Embedded Software Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing embedded software within the Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) team. IVHM creates solutions that perform health management for the aircraft.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Taking a lead role in architecting, designing, and developing embedded software for IVHM products, ensuring adherence to GE's stringent processes and the DO-178C standard, which is crucial for aviation software safety and certification.
  • Continuous Integration and Testing: Overseeing continuous software integration and testing processes to ensure software quality and reliability.
  • Problem-Solving: Identifying software failures and implementing effective solutions, thereby ensuring the robustness of IVHM solutions.
  • Mentorship: Acting as a mentor and resource for less experienced team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Professional Experience: At least 6 years of experience in embedded software development, with a minimum of 2 years working specifically with DO-178C software development processes and certification standards. Additionally, at least 2 year of experience in C coding is required.
  • Citizenship Requirement: Due to the sensitive nature of the work, which involves U.S. Government contracts, this position is open only to U.S. citizens, with GE requiring proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Leadership and Communication: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, coupled with excellent oral and written communication abilities, are essential for this role. The ability to lead both global and virtual teams is particularly valued.
  • Project Management: Proficiency in project management, encompassing cost, schedule, earned value, scope, and risk management, is desired. This skill set is crucial for leading projects to successful completion within the allocated resources and timelines.
  • Specialized Experience: Experience with DO-178C DAL B is highly desirable, indicating a deeper understanding of the stringent requirements for software that operates at a high level of safety criticality.
