Job Description Summary

The Electrical Power Systems Contracts Team has an exciting opportunity for a Cheltenham, UK based Associate Director of Contracts.

A successful candidate will lead a team of highly motivated Contracts professionals through proposal development, negotiations, and contract execution for efforts at various stages of a product's lifecycle (Development, Production, Sustainment, etc.)

In this role, you will help develop our strategy, implement continuous improvement via Lean Tools, and drive accountability and professional development across your team. You will also be responsible for work that is less defined in scope in certain areas and will rely heavily on your understanding and experience to execute business objectives.

You will be an integral part of a dynamic cross functional team providing sound business advice, spearheading the process by which contracts are created and influencing how we provide products and services to our varied customers.

This position will involve working and guiding your team on both Military and Commercial contracts, through developing an understanding of the entire contracting lifecycle.
The ability to navigate the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) would be advantageous. Individuals should readily adapt to change and be aspiring to apply their skills in an expeditious environment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior contracts focal point for critical programs. Responsibilities cover the entire contracting life-cycle, from receipt of solicitation through contract close-out.
  • Superior knowledge of terms and conditions in contracts; understanding of the legal implications of contract provisions; familiarity with contract law and principles; skilled at reviewing and redlining terms & conditions, identifying and mitigating risk areas.
  • Lead a team of contracts professionals which includes conducting performance reviews, mentoring, coaching, career planning and providing regular candid feedback.
  • Embody GE's core Behavioural Anchors (Act with Humility, Lead with Transparency and Deliver with Focus) and drive others to do the same.
  • Effectively interface with all functions of the business including Program Management, Sales, Supply Chain, Marketing, Engineering, Finance, HR and Legal
  • Ability to coach others to work well and cohesively with cross-functional stakeholders, describe terms and conditions, risks and offer mitigation ideas, lead negotiations and partner with the above functions in order to offer compliant solutions to contracting requirements.
  • Ability to build and foster strong customer relationships with varied customers
  • Ability to resolve complex issues within functional areas and/or area of expertise.
  • Present to and advise various Business Leaders on contractual risk.
  • Ability to demonstrate the monetisation of contractual risk.
  • Solid comprehension of the Federal Acquisition Regulations and supplements advantageous and/or extensive knowledge of commercial legal contracts and terms, Commercial and International Contracting.
  • Able to balance leading key pursuits and initiatives with people leadership responsibilities.
  • Drive mentoring across the team, leveraging experience and skill set.
  • Lead projects and teams towards improving business processes through the adoption of Lean.
  • Ability to create a high performing collaborative environment.
  • Potential for periodic international travel

Required Qualifications

  • Typically requires a university degree and minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience
  • Experience leading a team
  • Experience with U.S. Government (USG) Contracts, International Direct Commercial Sale Contracts, or Civil Contracts
