About the Position
The Lynn advanced programs (AP) section is a brand-new organization with the mission of inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability for the next generation of military applications. Lynn AP supports a wide range of engineering activity including design, analysis, and testing across new, derivative, and existing engines.

The fan module design manager will lead a team of approximately 10 direct reports ranging from early career to experienced engineers that will execute mechanical design and development of the fan module on a next generation product. The fan module design manager will also serve as the integrated product team (IPT) leader responsible for the overall design of the fan module including collaboration with adjacent disciplines and modules to deliver a successful fan design while balancing requirements. A high level of operational judgement will be required to achieve project outcomes.
Together, the fan module team will execute a range of design life cycle activities including mechanical design, analysis, manufacturing support, and testing. This role is best suited for an experienced engineer with a passion for developing people and solving new or complex design problems that require a collaborative approach across multiple engineering disciplines. Working effectively in person and across geographic sites or with adjacent organizations will be necessary for successful design execution. In addition to design responsibilities, the manager will provide development opportunities and career navigation guidance to direct reports.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead the fan module design, analysis, and test using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Ensure all technical data generated regarding fan module design is properly documented.
- Provide technical guidance and influence outcomes balancing input from cross functional teams and design requirements. Assess quality of available information and ask pertinent questions to make informed decisions
- Demonstrate critical thinking and engineering judgment to solve complex tasks or problems across engineering, project management, or manufacturing. Recommend new or creative solutions to challenges as they arise.
- Share specialized knowledge in fan module design or relevant mechanical design experience including rotors, airfoils, OR cold structures. Understand integration with adjacent engine or airframe hardware on similar applications
- Assess internal and external business challenges associated with fan module design and overall program. Recommend best practices to improve. Stay informed of industry trends and understand impacts to short or long term project goals.
- Lead daily management activities and develop action plans as needed to respond to issues/problems
- Serve as the IPT lead for the fan module. Prepare and present module design reviews with internal and external customers. Review and provide feedback on all component design review presentations prior to the review to support successful, on-time reviews
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in relevant design engineering position
- Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

- Extensive experience with 3D Modeling software, preferably Unigraphics/NX
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems as part of a larger team
- Strong project management skills with ability to independently organize and prioritize effort for self and team members
- Experience in design, analysis, and manufacturing of high-precision or turbomachinery components
- 5+ years experience in mechanical design of fan module or related components including rotors, airfoils, or cold structures
- Proficient with GD&T principles and reading drawings
- Active US government security clearance at the Secret level
