The Advanced Lead Engineer- Testing will be responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of test hardware/software that enables/automates the testing of the aviation power equipment in both R&D and production environments.

At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Role Overview

  • Develop modular, reusable test architectures for manufacturing and engineering design verification
  • Develop test software that interfaces with a range of test equipment
  • Develop custom automation solutions to engineering and manufacturing challenges using a combination of embedded electronics and innovative hardware
  • Work closely with Product Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure a testable product is being developed and influence the design to increase product reliability and test coverage.
  • Provide technical leadership for design, process improvements, and data collection
  • Define and implement project plans, manage milestones, and hold reviews to assure reliable test systems are delivered on schedule.
  • Write Equipment Verification Plans, Equipment Operation Procedures, and Test Reports against product requirements
  • Investigate test failures and communicate/execute recommended actions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college

OR

  • High School Diploma / GED/ Associate's degree with a minimum 6 years of engineering experience
  • Plus, a minimum of 5 years of experience in test software development, automation, manufacturing, or embedded electronics role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering
  • 5+ years of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/ or Inventor experience in creating electrical schematics and 3D models
  • 5+ years LabVIEW development experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with research and development and manufacturing engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience automating processes and testing to improve manufacturing yields and reduce production time
  • 5+ years of experience supporting test, automation, etc. to transition products from development to manufacturing
  • Extensive knowledge of physical sensors, such as current transducers, pressure transducers, accelerometers, flowmeters, and temperature sensors
  • Experience with test equipment, including thermal chambers, data acquisition systems, pressure controllers, DMMs, Oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge with a range of interfaces including GPIB, USB, VISA, TCP/IP, CAN bus, SPI, I2C, Ethernet IP, and Modbus
  • Experience with PLC and HMI products/ programming (Allen Bradley preferred)
  • Experience / understanding of electromechanical devices.
  • National Instruments Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD), Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA)
  • Development experience in Python, MATLAB, and Embedded C
