White House, National Security and Nuclear Threats Reporter
USA TODAY is seeking an ambitious, well- sourced and innovative reporter who can break news on the White House through the lens of national security and nuclear threats.
Following a historic election where voters across the country made their voices heard, this reporter will join a team covering one of Washington's most consequential beats.
The reporter will work closely with USA TODAY colleagues who cover the Pentagon, intelligence agencies, the State Department and Congress. The position will be especially important as the nation engages in a transition of power and as foreign conflicts are of intense interest to readers.

USA TODAY is looking for a candidate who can quickly build contacts with policy decision-makers, execute both breaking news and enterprising story ideas.
This position requires someone with strong writing chops and creativity to find and tell stories that will resonate with readers beyond the beltway; someone who is willing to experiment and innovate to bring audiences into the fold - or the screen.
We are also a highly collaborative, fast-paced and nimble newsroom. We put journalism first and want team players that can work with Nation, World, and Investigative teams.
This is a one-year fellowship position starting in January 2025 and is financed by the Outrider Foundation with an annual salary of $80,000.

Responsibilities:
- Idea generation: Keep fresh ideas flowing to advance the discussion around national security and nuclear threats.
- Experience or interest in turning these topics into meaningful coverage that resonates with a wide cross-section of readers.
- An audience-focused approach: you know platforms well and understand how to reach readers, no matter where they prefer to get their information.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Exposure to deadline-driven environment.
- Social-media and SEO knowledge.
- Self-motivation and self-direction.
- This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
