We are seeking a Social Media/Corporate Communications Manager to join our team. In this role, you will oversee Gannett's corporate social media accounts, providing strategic social media support to amplify all initiatives, announcements and publicity across the company. You will also be responsible for public relations support including drafting press releases, strategic pitches, developing thought leadership opportunities and internal communications. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented and task-focused with strong writing skills.

You should have a passion and understanding of the social media landscape, with hands-on experience activating a wide variety of platforms on behalf of consumer brands. This role requires a strong understanding of popular social networks, including their functionality, design and contemporary channel best practices, with a curious and experimental approach to emerging platforms, features and trends.

Base Salary: $65,000 - $73,000/annually

Responsibilities include:

Social Media

• Help shape and execute social media strategies that impact a wide range of business objectives.

• Work with internal stakeholders (creative, content strategists, extended marketing team, HR) to identify and amplify priority initiatives through social media.

• Collaborate with different creative teams (both internal and external) to develop, deploy and optimize compelling social creative assets.

• Partner with newsroom social teams to create synergies between paid and organic content promotion.

• Utilize social media management platforms to create quarterly, monthly and yearly reports for the Executive Committee, Corporate Communications and People team.

• Lead a weekly social synchronization meeting with senior leadership to discuss upcoming social media posts.

• Write social copy that connects our brands and leverages content across all sectors of Gannett.

• Ability to engage and strategize with content or commentary that impacts the company's reputation.

• Collaborate with leadership on timely subject matter.

• Create thorough and detailed listening reports.

• Develop creative and engaging social content for tentpole events across all social channels.

• Innovate new ways to execute, test and learn to build new audiences on emerging platforms.

• Initiate programming channel-specific strategies while maintaining knowledge and expertise across all social platforms.

• Foster positive relationships with Gannett employees on LinkedIn by crafting engaging posts regarding new hires, executive and leadership speaking engagements, summer interns, fellowships, etc.

• Manage a high volume of daily social media posts, engagement and interactions - flagging any positive moments for opportunistic engagement or addressing any that present a potential brand risk.

Corporate Communications

• Build and manage relationships with key reporters and producers to share and promote stories published across USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network of over 200 local publications.

• Support media training to prepare both the newsroom and other internal stakeholders for media and thought leadership opportunities.

• Create strategic plans and build buzz for brand extensions, partnerships and collaborations.

• Assist internal stakeholders with communications efforts and plans to drive revenue and earned media for all Gannett brands including LocaliQ, digital marketing solutions business, USA TODAY NETWORK Ventures and specialty content.

• Focus on earned opportunities within the media industry, as well as technology, advertising, marketing, entrepreneurship and other distinctive areas.

• Strategically assess interview requests and handle media bookings as necessary.

• Craft proactive, strategic pitches that advance and support Gannett's portfolio.

• Draft press releases, media invitations, bios and other content.

• Write and support employee communications - including newsletters and monthly reporting.

What we're looking for:

• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience.

• Must be a quick thinker, able to troubleshoot and be a creative problem solver.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities combined with effective interpersonal skills.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet hard deadlines.

• Must be comfortable working closely with leadership.

• A strong understanding and working knowledge of social channels best practices and how each platform can be used most efficiently to drive results.

• Hands-on experience with social media management tools (including but not limited to: True Anthem, Campsite, Facebook Business Manager).

• Experience with social content creation and execution with a focus on brand-building initiatives.

• Demonstrated social copywriting skills.

• Strong presentation skills are essential.

• Passionate about finding new solutions and platforms to drive audience growth.

• Maintain a "hustle" mindset and an eagerness to learn.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $45,000 and $92,000. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
