The right candidate understands or is eager to learn what people here care about. The reporter is SEO savvy, can spot high-interest topics using engagement tools like Google Trends and can work independently but also thrives in collaborative environments.

Our reporting focuses on these key areas:

  • Finding and answering key questions local readers are asking on search and social, sometimes before they ask them.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Have a knack for SEO-driven headlines and other audience-driving strategies.
  • Be nimble and able to adjust swiftly to shifting news demands.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least two years of reporting experience.
  • Work samples that demonstrate storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.
  • Proven experience producing accurate reports under deadline pressure, in a style that resonates with mobile and social audiences.
  • Proficiency on social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Reddit.
  • Ability to shoot basic photos and videos in a breaking news situation.
  • This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
