Gannett is seeking an Executive Director of Enterprise and Distributed Partnerships who will be responsible for the oversight and growth of Gannett's multifaceted Enterprise and Distributed Partnerships for USA TODAY and its owned and operated local publications.

As the leader of this business development unit, the Executive Director will forge a long-term strategy to drive revenue through a multitude of partnerships. This includes supporting growth of content syndication to largescale news aggregators, B2B, IP and AI licensing, philanthropic partnerships, and social media partnerships. The Executive Director will have a team of business development and partnership management executives that source, negotiate, execute and manage new partnerships.
The Executive Director will become a key leader of an action-biased and innovative revenue team, reporting up through the Senior Vice President of Content Monetization. The successful candidate will work directly with partners like Apple News, Yahoo! News, Microsoft News as well as Reuters, Newspapers.com, and Amazon. They will also work closely with colleagues in Product, Data, Content, Legal and Finance to evaluate and implement new partnerships and accelerate growth.
We are seeking someone with a strong business development and partnerships background in media and publishing, who is passionate about the ever-evolving ways people consume content.
This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii or based at our headquarters in Manhattan, NY or our Washington, DC office.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the managers of multiple business lines that include partnerships in syndication, content licensing, IP licensing, new business and philanthropy
- Oversee partner management team responsible for 50+ partnerships across distributed platforms including social, licensing, platforms and streaming
- Manage and shepherd business development strategy
- Collaborate with Product, Sales, and Newsroom teams to conceptualize new partnership opportunities throughout the sales cycle
- Work cross-functionally to identify opportunities to optimize large-scale, strategic partnerships with corporations currently working with different teams across Gannett
- Research and review AI licensing opportunities with focus on long-term opportunities and implications
- Ensure regular communication with partners to stay up to date on performance and optimization/growth opportunities
- Provide regular analysis and insights senior leadership to support business decisions
- Provide cross-department and executive briefings on business performance and sell-in new opportunities
- Work with team to ensure partner oversight, deal fulfillment, and business strategy is properly executed
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of competitive marketplace and provide team with regular briefings
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 15+ years in a business development and/or partnerships role at a media, technology, publishing company or the intersection thereof
- Comprehensive understanding of the digital publishing landscape and/or the digital media and entertainment content distribution ecosystem
- Experience working with multiple departments and stakeholders, and presenting to senior leadership
- Experience business modeling and compiling and benchmarking data from multiple third-party sources
- Experience negotiating multimillion-dollar, long-term partnership deals
- Exceptional relationship and partner management background
- Strategic thinker, self-starter, and creative problem solver
- Superior Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Excellent communicator in written and verbal form
- Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $190,000 and $220,000. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
