Our Impact:

Freddie Mac's mission is to provide liquidity, stability, and affordability to the housing market. Our team is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the corporate sustainability strategy, including driving climate impact through partnerships, initiatives, and program development. We also manage sustainability reporting and analysis, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting, and ESG ratings, as well as support employee education and engagement.

Your Impact:

The Sustainability Initiatives and Strategy Director will lead a team that develops and manages Freddie Mac's overarching Corporate Sustainability strategy. You collaborate with cross-divisional internal and external stakeholders (including the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)) to design, obtain leadership support for, and manage the execution of activities that promote our sustainability strategy and climate-related priorities. You and your team will regularly engage with industry partners, including identifying partnership opportunities to address our sustainability priorities. You will be responsible for working with leadership and coordinating with key partners on the following:

  • Facilitating sustainability governance, including conducting climate impact reviews
  • Supporting identification of sustainability-related opportunities
  • Developing positive relationships with key leaders and SMEs in each division, particularly in Single Family, Multifamily, Finance Enterprise Risk Management and Communications.
  • Establishing and overseeing key performance indicators and metrics to track progress, measure success, and demonstrate the impact of our sustainability programs.
  • Preparing and presenting to key stakeholders, including senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and FHFA
  • Developing procedures, reporting, and presentations supporting the sustainability strategy and climate impact focus.
  • Measuring and managing the company's GHG emissions
  • Staying abreast of global sustainability trends, regulations, and best practices to continuously enhance our enterprise sustainability.
  • Periodically leading ESG materiality assessments to ensure continued attention to priority risks and opportunities

This role requires an individual with a minimum 3-5 years of experience in sustainability policy. Solid understanding of commonly used frameworks and global standards, including Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions related state policies, Science Based Target initiatives, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Foundation (PCAF), Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), International Capital Market Association (ICMA) Green and Social Bond Principles, UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), and UN Principles for Responsible Investing, will be helpful.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 12+ years of related experience with preference given to experience in the housing market
  • Demonstrated managerial success
  • Excellent writing skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex topics
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships, partner with multi-functional teams, and influence others
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a hybrid team
  • Pro-active approach to work, detail oriented, organized teammate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $181,000 - $271,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
