The Role

We are looking for an experienced engineer to play a pivotal role in our London team - you'll share knowledge, offer mentorship, and work closely with various systems support teams, production departments, and stakeholders to keep everything running smoothly.

Your main focus in this role will be to provide expert support and development for our globally distributed storage estate. This includes managing and enhancing a mix of Solaris, Linux NVMe, GPFS, Qumulo profiles, primarily using the ZFS file system. We're talking high performance, highly available, multi-tier, multi-petabyte capacity, supporting Framestore's systems and production departments.

That's not all - we're looking towards the future. Framestore is set on modernising our storage estate to a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) architecture. We want to leverage the latest Open Source and proprietary solutions to improve management, performance, and reliability.

You'll also be:

  • Designing, developing, maintaining, and evolving our global storage estate
  • Being the escalation point for storage operational issues
  • Ensuring business continuity through resilience, automation, metrics, and data analysis
  • Monitoring and adopting DevOps/Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices

Job requirements

Core Experience

  • Managing enterprise storage systems, preferably in a global context.
  • Proficiency in storage technologies such as object storage, distributed & clustered file systems, block storage, and data replication.
  • Knowledge of storage virtualisation, data deduplication, compression, and encryption technologies.
  • Familiarity with enterprise storage hardware, including Dell, NetApp, and Supermicro.
  • Understanding of storage protocols like NFS, SMB, SAS, FC, iSCSI, and NFS v4.
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or similar systems, along with version control using Git.
  • Competence with Linux operating systems.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience with VMWare VSAN and virtualisation technologies.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python/BASH and knowledge of Gitlab CI/CD for continuous integration.
  • Exposure to backup solutions like NetBackup.
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of cloud storage solutions and familiarity with clustered file systems such as GPFS, Isilon, Qumulo, and Ceph.
  • Knowledge of non-clustered file systems like ZFS, XFS, and EXT4, as well as object storage, erasure coding, and S3 technologies.
  • Competence with Solaris operating systems.

Work Arrangements

At Framestore, we offer a flexible work arrangement where employees have the option to split their work time between home and office. While remote work is feasible, occasional attendance at team meetings held in our London office may be required. Candidates should be able to commute easily when necessary. Unfortunately, VISA sponsorship is not available for this position at this time.
