Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities - such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling - to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. The HV EDS (Electrical Distribution Systems) Design Engineer will be responsible for vehicle side electrical wire harness design and integration. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of EDS designs for next generation Model e products. Seniority level will be determined based on experience; Junior through Senior Staff Engineer levels will be considered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What you'll be able to do:
- Design and develop High voltage electrical systems and components for FORD Advance EV projects.
- Own High Voltage harness designs from concept to production.
- Develop vehicle harness designs using 3D CAD working with cross-functional teams to find optimal and innovative solutions for wiring routings.
- Develop detailed 2D harness manufacturing drawings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure electrical wiring design meet all the interfacing systems, vehicle packaging and manufacturing requirements.
- Support device transmittals, schematics, and 2D drawing reviews enabled Fit-Form-Function data to the TIER1 suppliers for harness manufacturing designs.
- Provide technical guidance across electrical wiring design and the integration of High Voltage electrical systems.
- Prepare technical documentation, including DFMEAs and DVP&Rs
- Conduct trade studies, analyses, and test programs as necessary to validate or verify that the wiring system meets all EMI/EMC, functional, performance and safety requirements.
- Fabricate prototypes and conduct testing to validate design performance.
- Support vehicle and Tier I assembly lines during the distinct phases of product development for harness reviews, confirm change implementation and issue resolution ensuring on-time deliveries.
- Stay updated and conduct research on industry trends and advancements in wire harness design and development.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum requirements we seek:
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing EDS Designs in an automotive or similar industry (i.e., Aerospace, Complex Medical Device)
- 5+ years of experience using 2D & 3D EDS Tooling (i.e., Vector Preevision, Mentor Capital, 3DX, Zuken, etc.)
- 5+ year of experience in a mass production setting launching new products.
- Strong Electrical Engineering fundamentals
- Ability to question traditional assumptions in the application of regulations, guidance material, and engineering specifications.
Preferred Requirements:
- Proficiency in using CAD software (CATIA-3DEXPERIENCE) for electrical design.
- Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and vehicle prototyping.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications
- Experience with instrumentation of prototype vehicles in a controlled lab environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team.
- A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.
- Experience developing specifications, DFMEAs, DVPs and PVPs, and APQP, and an overall understanding of HV systems certification processes and requirements. [i.e. SAE J2464, IEC 61851-1]
- Experience deriving cost, manufacturability, reliability and failure modes tradeoffs from based on specific designs.
- Development and design of novel HV connector designs & EDS Components
