Cleveland Operations has an opening for a Boiler & Machinery (B&M) Consultant Engineer, based in Kentucky, with experience in the power generation industry being preferred. Consultant Engineers will interact with FM Global clients from many different industries, with an eventual emphasis on those with power generation operations. Engineers will use their FM Global training to advise clients to protect their facilities against mechanical and electrical breakdowns, as well as hazards related to processes, production, and many others. As a Consultant Engineer, you will develop strong client relationships to advise on risks associated with client businesses as well as develop and implement risk improvement strategies, making an impact on your client’s business and FM Global’s success.

  • Evaluate the asset integrity and reliability of client production equipment, support systems, and utilities. Identify hazards and deficiencies based on FM Global training provided, and deliver focused risk improvement solutions.
  • Consistently apply FM Global operating standards, data sheets, and guides
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports from each client site visit.
  • Collaborate within FM Global, including Operations Engineering, Client Services, Account Management and Underwriting.
  • This position is based in Michigan and is remote. Engineers will work from their home office, and must manage their time and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • This is a field-based role and will require travel to large, complex industrial client sites to evaluate the operations and systems of the site and identify risks and hazards. Expected overnight travel once fully trained is 30%-40%. Travel during the training period could be higher depending on location and availability of the designated training mentors. The initial training period is approximately 18 months.




  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline;  Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is preferred; all disciplines will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in an industrial setting with hands-on exposure to electrical and mechanical systems.  Power Generation experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Asset Integrity management, Process Safety, and safety devices a plus.
  • Possess strong verbal and written English communication skills, proficiency in MS Office products is required.
  • Must be analytical, organized and have good problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • A valid driver’s license is required. A company car is provided.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Able to climb ladders
  • Able to tour/walk large manufacturing sites for up to 4-6 hours during a client visit.

The hiring range for this position is $92,800 to $133,400 The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
