Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add an Assistant Controller located in Coopersville, Michigan.

Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller's role is responsible for financial statement preparation, financial investigations, budgets and to ensure forecasts are in line with corporate policies, processes, and legislative requirements.

What a typical day looks like:
  • Support daily, weekly and monthly accounting activities (cash activity, account reconciliations, inter-company activity, financial and operational reporting, etc.
  • Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies and procedures to comply with local, state and federal laws, corporate controls and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assist in the preparation of statements in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley principles (SOX).
  • Record journal entries and reconcile accounts for the monthly closing process.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts and identify and document variances while working with departmental managers to improve forecasting accuracy.
  • Participate in preparation for the annual audit and other compliance audits.
  • Assist in the development of reports for management and corporate.
  • Scrutinize the company's accounting information and reporting data to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Utilize ERP system to maintain records, improve and facilitate processes and improve data reliability.
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field or equivalent experience and training; CPA certification is a plus!
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Assistant Controller or other similar position; cost accounting background in manufacturing & automotive industry is strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley principles (SOX) as well as knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closings, reporting, etc.).
  • Deadline driven, understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (especially MS Excel) and accounting software and reporting packages (e.g., SAP).
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills as well as organizational skills, attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
