Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. This hands-on experience will provide valuable insights into corporate sustainability practices and the integration of ESG strategies into a business operation in the financial services industry. The summer intern can expect to work on key tasks such as supporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data and calculations, assisting with collecting ESG data across the organization, drafting the sustainability report, and supporting climate risk analysis. The intern will also conduct industry research, contribute to presentations, and help with analyzing sustainability-related trends.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Be part of a dynamic team with interesting projects.

Accountabilities can and may include areas such as research, analytics, projects, strategy, process review and improvement, as well as technology enhancements and support.

Attend professional development sessions, informational sessions, networking and community service events.

Have a dedicated manager and program manager to help you navigate the bank and the internship program.

Be assigned a project, designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that you will present at the close of the internship.

Prepare a wrap-up presentation to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline your accomplishments and experience during the internship

Conduct market research and competitor analysis related to sustainability and other broader aspects of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).
Assist the various workstreams related to data collection and management, cross-functional engagements, GHG emissions measurement, sustainability reporting, climate risk, regulatory requirements, sustainability finance, and other sustainability-related strategy.

Internship dates: 5/28/2025 - 8/01/2025

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience

Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program)

Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

Preferred qualifications:

3.0 minimum GPA

Strong desire to learn and grow

Possess a positive attitude, naturally curious and enjoys collaborating with others

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Critical thinking skills

Ability to multitask

Ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on business needs

Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly

Currently pursuing a degree that has a focus on sustainability-related fields such as environmental science, sustainability management, environmental policy or business and data analytics.
Strong analytical and presentation skills, proficient in data management and a keen interest in sustainability and ESG.
Detail-oriented, capable of conducting thorough research and have good communication skills, with strong critical thinking skills.

If hired in CA, the base pay for this position is generally between $22.44/Hr and $34.32/Hr. If hired in NY, the base pay for this position is generally between $22.44/Hr and $34.32/Hr. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
