Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

First Citizens Bank (FCB) is seeking a Director to join the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Organization. ERM sets the highest level of risk management standards for the organization to guide the risk management lifecycle including identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring, and escalating risks across the organization. The primary responsibility of the Director, ERM - Enterprise Risk Oversight is to design, implement, and maintain the Enterprise Risk Oversight function to ensure that Enterprise and Business Risk Profile reporting reported to Senior Leadership is accurate and comprehensive. This role will manage a team responsible for Enterprise Risk Oversight, maintain Enterprise Risk Oversight Governance Documents, and support the creation and publishing of regular reports to Management and the Board of Directors, lead Risk Programs, and be an advocate for Risk across the organization.

Important Skills Include:
  • Risk Management: Extensive knowledge in risk management including risk types (e.g., Credit, Liquidity, Market, Operational, Compliance, and Reputation Risk). Knowledge and understanding of regulations applicable to large financial institutions including BCBS 239, SR 15-18/19, SR 21-3).
  • Critical Thinking, Communication & Organizational Skills: The role requires proficient communication skills (verbal/written) and strong organizational and time management skills. Strong ability to apply critical thinking to risk assessment methodologies.
  • Reporting / Documentation Development: The role requires proficiency in developing professional materials such as process flows, reporting, PowerPoint decks, memos, and business requirements for a variety of professional internal / external audiences.
  • Project/Process Management: The role also requires a basic understanding of project and process management and experience managing multiple priorities.
  • Client Management (internal): This role will coordinate data and information inputs from a variety of sources.
  • Influence and Communication: Ability to Champion the importance of Risk Management across all lines of defense; Ability to influence the capabilities and outcomes of risk assessments; Ability to quickly understand new and complex topics and translate into simple layman communications; Dedicated team player; Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Leadership: Ability to manage through ambiguity, develop a highly proficient team, and hold themselves and others accountable.
  • Experience with GRC tools (i.e., Archer) a plus.


The candidate will report directly to the Senior Director, ERM - Risk Identification and Assessment, Oversight, Reporting, and Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate all risk information across the Enterprise and determine the overall risk profile assessment for FCB.
  • Generate comprehensive yet pithy narratives justifying the overall risk profile assessment for FCB.
  • Establish an enterprise aggregation methodology to determine the overall risk profile assessment considering a variety of factors including risk category assessments, business unit assessments, and audit outcomes.
  • Development and maintenance of Effective Challenge logs related to risk profile reporting.
  • Remaining knowledgeable and informed of all risk management related information for the institution by conducting research of internal information such as Committee materials, audit results, and external information such as news sources, to ensure that there is connectivity across Risk programs and reporting.
  • Facilitate quarterly Risk Oversight CRO Workshops to provide early read-outs of risk profile assessments.
  • Aggregating business risk profile assessments into the enterprise risk profile.
  • Providing effective challenge of business unit identified Top Risks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk and Project Management or Consulting (internal or external) OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Enterprise Risk or Operational Risk and Project Management or Consulting (internal or external)

Additional Qualifications:
  • Governance documentation writing and monitoring experience
  • Strong ability to work independently and adaptive to change
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

The base pay for this position is generally between $150,000 to $200,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
