Job Summary:
The Senior Payroll and Accounting Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing and accounting for our Canadian operations. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with extensive experience in payroll systems and accounting practices, ensuring compliance with all federal and provincial regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Management:
    • Process bi-weekly/monthly payroll for Canadian employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
    • Maintain payroll records, including earnings, deductions, and taxes.
    • Handle payroll inquiries and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
    • Ensure accurate and timely year-end reporting (e.g., T4s, T4As).

  • Prepare and maintain financial records, including journal entries, general ledger accounts, and financial statements.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of payroll-related accounts.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Support the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll regulations, including Employment Standards, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements, and other relevant bodies.
    • Prepare and submit required tax filings and remittances.
    • Generate and analyze payroll and financial reports for management review.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in payroll and accounting procedures.
    • Stay updated on changes in payroll and accounting regulations and ensure the company's compliance.

  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • 4-5 years of experience in payroll processing and accounting, specifically within a Canadian context.
    • Proficiency with payroll software and accounting systems.
    • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial payroll regulations.
    • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
