VP, Architecture - Fidelity Charitable
The Role
Fidelity's Charitable Technology team is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Architect to join our development team. The VP, Architecture will be instrumental in driving platform innovation and in turn enabling the organization to stay on the cutting edge of digital philanthropy. This position is responsible for working across all Fidelity Charitable products/programs as a trusted advisor, providing direction and guidance on all aspects of technology delivery. Working with business stakeholders, executive leadership and agile development teams you will help oversee the delivery of technology projects, developing architectural blueprints, technical proof of concepts and solution designs. This is a blended role, requiring a combination of leadership, mentoring skills alongside deep technical expertise. Key responsibilities are:

- Defining technology vision, strategy and solutions to align with business priorities.
- Working with business and technology stakeholders to guide and oversee architecture definition.
- Mentoring and growing architecture team members
- Directly supporting agile development teams in developing solutions, engaging in both a "hands on", and an architectural oversight role
- Working to continuously improve technology craft - patterns, practices, tools and methods
- Continuing to 'sharpen the blade' of technology patterns and techniques based on understanding changing trends.
Expertise and Skills you Bring
- Strong software architecture skills and knowledge with proven track record in delivering complex software systems.
- Knowledge and experience with contemporary web architecture patterns, practices, and technologies (e.g understanding of micro-services, REST, Single page applications)
- Knowledge of and experience of enterprise integration patterns
- Understanding digital transformation: strategy and execution
- Understanding of the full end to end technology stack (i.e. front-end client to database, and application to infrastructure)
- Experience in data architecture, database design, analytics, ELT/ETL, and "big data".
- Understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and dev-ops practices
- Ability to maintain meaningful relationships with business and technology stakeholders.
- Focus on being sufficiently hands-on: pragmatic and willing to step in to code /design reviews and implementation design discussions.
- Mentoring, coaching and leadership skills to help build and guide the architecture practice.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors or master's degree in a technology-related field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Software, etc.)
- 10+ years of experience in multiple IT areas that include analysis, design, evaluation, development, and implementation.
- 4+ years' experience in a senior solution architecture or similar position
- Strong and proven full-stack experience in application development (preferably Java/Spring, and/or Angular or similar front-end framework)
- Systems integration pattern knowledge and experience (with expertise in REST API design)
- Knowledge of secure coding practices, and common security protocols and patterns
- Experience within Cloud-based architecture patterns and practices
- Understanding & applicability of emerging technology trends of analytics, mobile and AI
- Knowledge and experience of data modeling and database systems
- Experience in SDLC (ideally agile), ALM tools and practices
- Knowledge and experience of the micro-services architecture pattern
- Experience with front-end UI patterns, practices and technologies (web, mobile)

The Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund ("Fidelity Charitable") is a public charity that sponsors the largest national donor-advised fund program. Since 1991, Fidelity Charitable has introduced tens of thousands of donors to the benefits - and increased charitable impact - of using a donor-advised fund to meet their philanthropic goals. Fidelity Charitable is governed by an independent Board of Trustees, which has hired Fidelity Investments as the service provider to the charity. Fidelity Investments provides all of the charitable organization's employees and supports all of its functions: Program Development, Marketing, Service Delivery, Relationship Management, Finance, Technology, Risk and Compliance, and Fundraising.
As Director, architecture you will play an important role in shaping the technology systems that support our charitable mission, working with team to modernize legacy systems to scale to meet our growing demand and help continue ongoing digital transformation.
