Position Description:

Analyzes and designs performance test execution scenarios based on load patterns on production systems and applications, and network layouts. Builds utilities to monitor and gather performance metrics for Linux and Windows based systems. Assist with planning, design, and execution testing within a complex project. Develops summary reports and provides recommendations - improves coding standards or database indexing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Gathers non-functional requirements to verify application performance.
  • Defines performance test scenarios and workflows to be tested and associate load profiles to ensure application performance.
  • Creates performance test plans, data, procedures, and automated scripts and captures results from execution.
  • Participates in formal reviews of application architecture and performance requirements.
  • Writes complete and accurate reports on application performance defects.
  • Identifies and suggests how to remediate poor performance through testing and analysis performed.
  • Ensures test environment reflects production for test execution.
  • Assists in the development of in-house test tools.
  • Executes automated test scripts for most complex projects.
  • Works with project team to establish testing entrance and exit criteria.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several initiatives.
  • Recommends strategies and methods to improve test plans and test processes.
  • Analyzes and reports test status and results.
  • Identifies test issues and reports to project manager and business.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Administration, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer (or closely related occupation) performing software performance engineering on Web applications, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), HTTP traffic, and User Interfaces (UIs) in a DevOps environment.

Or, alternatively, a Master's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Administration, Physics, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience as a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer (or closely related occupation) performing software performance engineering on Web applications, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), HTTP traffic, and User Interfaces (UIs) in a DevOps environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") performing software performance benchmarking and engineering of Web applications, APIs, HTTP traffic, databases, and UIs for orchestration according to DevOps engineering practices using performance benchmarking tools and Amazon Web Services (AWS) performance test infrastructure - JMeter, Grafana, Selenium Webdriver, Datadog, GitHub, and Jenkins.
  • DE analyzing and monitoring hardware system performance metrics - CPU/memory, heap, and Garbage Collections (GC) - across .Net, Python, JavaScript, Java, and Node.js software platforms; monitoring operating systems - Linux and Windows - using Distributed Tracing APM tools, Datadog, Splunk, and Dynatrace; and analyzing performance across on-premise and externally hosted Cloud applications - AWS - using AWS Console and CloudWatch.
  • DE researching performance bottlenecks to provide tuning recommendations to global development teams using Distributed Tracing APM tools - Dynatrace, AppDynamics, and DataDog; and performing capacity planning to advocate CPU sizing, memory, database utilization, and network and process configuration management using APM tools.
  • DE verifying application performance by developing performance test strategies, gathering nonfunctional requirements, designing automated test scripts, executing performance tool feasibility and POCs, designing workload profiles, detecting memory leaks, tracking defects, and supporting high availability cluster configuration.
