The Role

Pembroke is seeking an experienced sustainability professional to document progress on the company's sustainability goals and develop effective reporting capabilities. The portfolio has committed to targets of Net Zero Carbon for (1) the operation of our assets by 2035 or sooner and (2), for the whole life of our assets by 2050 or sooner. The Senior Manager, Sustainability will be responsible for documenting, evaluating and communicating Pembroke's sustainability efforts and progress.

This position reports to the Director, Sustainability and seeks a self-starting, data-driven Senior Manager to evaluate global progress and compliance. The role will lead the roll-out and delivery of complex, high-profile and high-impact projects through research and analysis. The incumbent will uncover and evaluate opportunities to drive growth and value and will provide strategic advice and insight on major issues affecting, or likely to affect, the portfolio of various assets across international markets.

Analysis and Reporting:

  • Manage a portfolio platform of sustainability data with end-to-end responsibility for the accuracy and assumptions included in metrics.
  • Organize and deliver research, analysis, and insights to deliver on Pembroke's goals and business priorities; this could include analyses regarding operational efficiency, international regulations, renewable energy procurement, etc.
  • Provide reliable and timely interpretation of analysis and financial models, modifying level of detail for various audiences and decision makers, including senior management and investors.
  • Contribute to an annual sustainability report, documenting sustainability achievements and outlining priority action areas; provide updates for quarterly Advisory Board meetings and as needed.

Project Delivery:

  • Translate high-level project requirements into required research and analyses to implement global initiatives and regional pilots; draft work plan, monitor progress against goals, clear documentation of process and meaningful analysis, conduct status updates with Director, Sustainability to adjust approaches as required.
  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of project/analysis insights, including scope definition, priority setting, research, vendor management, data quality assurance, analysis, insight synthesis, report creation and communication.

Sustainability Advisor / Subject Matter Expert:

  • Collaborate with regional property managers to gain local insights on data trends and outline pilot approaches of initiatives
  • Advise on risk profile and improvement potential for each asset. This includes energy/emissions, health/wellness and resilience, and documentation in asset one-pagers and a global summary. Incorporate analysis of evolving regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Serve as ambassador of sustainability goals and achievements across the business; clearly represent key objectives and priorities and identify the connections to wider business goals. Inspire action at the asset level by clearly communicating value and aligning purpose.

Portfolio Oversight:

  • Ensure ESG/Sustainability information is current at the portfolio, regional, and asset levels.
  • Contribute to calculations for portfolio decarbonization roadmap, collaborate with finance and development teams to evaluate impact of capital projects on consumption projections and metrics

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 7-10 years data analysis experience, including commercial real estate sustainability, with international and multi-family experience preferred and a track record of delivering high quality results, insights and recommendations on a timely and proactive basis.
  • Proactive critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to fuse insightful thinking and disciplined execution.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with high attention to detail; the ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of data and distill important concepts.
  • Sophisticated understanding of how to integrate various metrics to develop actionable insights that isolate key assumptions.
  • Working knowledge of various building technology platforms and how to calibrate data across units of measurement and utility tracking. Ability to align portfolio platform metrics with asset-level systems used for on-site efficiency improvements and regulatory reporting.
  • Fundamental understanding of office and multifamily mechanical systems sufficient for discussions on capital and operational sustainability strategies.
  • Experience working with data management platforms, such as Deepki, Yardi, Power BI, and capable of independently determining strengths and weaknesses that impact reporting integrity.
  • Advanced comprehension of real estate variables that may impact sustainability metrics, including occupancy, power grid sources, building design, etc. Able to clearly label assumptions and engage building specialists to improve efficiency or communicate fixed limitations.
  • Awareness of global sustainability trends and appreciation for regional differences.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Curious, growth mindset; eager to tackle assignments with unfamiliar context or loose guidance. Considers purpose of tasks and suggests ways to enhance or further develop deliverables.
  • Ability to travel as needed to improve familiarity with markets and assets, review challenges and opportunities with local teams or vendors.
  • Experience working in fast-paced multi-disciplinary teams with the ability to quantify the impact of decisions from a cost and value perspective.
  • Working knowledge of lease terms, building operations, property management best practices.
  • Could be based in Boston, London, or Stockholm.
