Position Description:

Supports Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) using Snowflake, Postgres, SQL Server, DB2, Netezza, and Oracle. Builds efficient system solutions to issues related to capacity, security, and performance using PL/SQL, T-SQL, and NZ SQL. Improves and maintains database performance using scripting and automation tools - Shell, Perl, Python, Unix, and C. Facilitates data ingress and egress patterns between Snowflake and different CSPs. Builds resilient database platforms within MPP systems and big data ecosystems (Netezza, Teradata, Greenplum, and Hadoop). Provides end-to-end technical support for enterprise data operations, including capacity planning, user/role provisioning, data administration, database security, and platform stability. Defines security requirements and operational procedures to ensure network integrity, physical protection, and authorized access to the network and applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administers various RDBMS platforms.
  • Enforces storage management standards.
  • Defines the scope of change and impact to other interfaces.
  • Creates high level architecture design for the enterprise.
  • Tests and implements new design features for general use.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects.
  • Provides technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Defines and evaluates database maintenance tools and build processes.
  • Provides software proficiencies and architectures related to high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Establishes performance tuning criteria and methods in coordination with internal and external technical resources.
  • Develops business cases to justify information security architecture initiatives.
  • Provides technical guidance on the design and implementation of complex databases.
  • Designs, evaluates, and performs highly complex database performance and functionality testing.
  • Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and techniques in order to minimize future incident occurrence.
  • Documents design, operational procedures, and standards for highly complex/business critical databases.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Modifies existing databases and database management systems or collaborate with programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Develops methods for integrating products by customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
  • Confers with systems analysts and other software engineers/developers to design systems and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing Cloud Data engineering support in a financial services environment.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing Cloud Data engineering support in a financial services environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") providing Snowflake administration support using multiple roles - Account Admin, SYSADMIN - to manage Snowflake environment in AWS; performing DBA activities - clone databases, create, alter and update tables, views, file formats, and data; and creating Snow pipe for continuous data load.
  • DE monitoring job activities, scheduling runs, and creating disaster recovery setup and runbooks, failover groups, and schemas; and developing SQL queries, Stored Procedures, and data mining in collaboration with the Database Developer and BI teams.
  • DE analyzing and documenting requirements; and supporting user acceptance for functional and technical specifications.
  • DE configuring and integrating various BI tools with BIG DATA; and creating Aggregations, calculated fields, table calculations, totals, and percentages using Key Performance Measures (KPI) and Measure.
