The Role

The Chief Enterprise Taxonomist will be responsible for developing and managing a new enterprise taxonomy strategy at Fidelity Investments to enhance content organization, retrieval, and governance across the company. This role will collaborate with various groups to ensure consistent and efficient classification of information, supporting multiple business objectives.

  • Develop and implement a new enterprise-wide taxonomy strategy to improve content management and reuse.
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of taxonomies, metadata schemas, and controlled vocabularies.
  • Ensure the enterprise taxonomy is always the "source of truth" across the organization and manage change implementation in the enterprise systems.
  • Draft policies and procedures that will ensure proper control and maintenance of the taxonomy.
  • Govern and coordinate the decision committee meetings, agenda, business unit leads, and all subsequent key taxonomy actions.
  • Implement interconnectivity between various systems, including content management systems (CMS), while working with IT and developer teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure taxonomy aligns with organizational goals.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of taxonomy usage and effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance and training to teams on taxonomy best practices and standards.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in taxonomy and information architecture.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5 -10 years of experience in taxonomy development, content strategy, content management, knowledge management, information architecture, or library science.
  • Expertise in designing and maintaining taxonomies.
  • Strong understanding of metadata, tagging strategy, and content workflow.
  • Proficiency in taxonomy management tools and software.
  • Experience with content modeling and design is a plus.
  • Experience assessing current state scenarios and facilitating the creation of roadmaps for migration to proposed taxonomies.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable strategies.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and consistency.
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to coach peers, guide others to perform at the highest level, and step up as leader to drive consistent processes.
  • A desire to understand the "big-picture" of organizational problems and contributing to alternative solutions.
  • Experience in the financial services industry is a plus.

As part of the CoE, you'll lead the enterprise taxonomy pillar.
