    Job Description

    The VP, Deputy Chief Economist will report directly to Fannie Mae's SVP, Chief Economist and act as an alternate with external audiences, including media, the Management Committee and the Board of Directors.

    This role is responsible for advancing the Economic and Strategic Research (ESR) group reputation as a thought leader on issues that affect the mortgage and housing market. The external audience for our research includes lenders, investors, academics and policy makers. In addition to external audiences, the team's work is used to help set company strategy and inform decision making by our executives, Board of Directors and regulators.

    This Deputy Chief Economist will manage research teams that conduct consumer and lender surveys, leverage Fannie Mae's data and work to advance the state of public knowledge on the mortgage and housing market as well as conduct research to inform corporate strategy and company policy.

    THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

    The VP, Deputy Chief Economist role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

    • Provide primary back up to the SVP, Chief Economist with the Management Committee, Board of Directors, external speaking engagements and the media.
    • Present research findings to business partners and stakeholders, at academic and industry conferences and to regulators.
    • Collaborate with leaders in other business units when developing ESR's research agenda so it balances participating in external thought leadership activities and meeting internal business needs.
    • Establish working relationships with academics, researchers in government and the private sector.
    • Supervise the managers and directors responsible for smaller teams conducting research
    • Assist managers and staff in designing research projects, interpreting findings from their work and that of others to effectively contribute to the factual foundation for the development of company policies.
    • Guide the career development of junior and mid-career analysts and economists.

    Qualifications

    THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

    • 10+ years of relevant work experience, with extensive leadership experience.
    • Ph.D. in Economics, Statistics or Finance is required.
    • Experience working at a highly regulated financial services institution is preferred.
    • A track record of developing and managing a research agenda and team.
    • Academic publications on topics relevant to the company.
    • Work experience in corporate research, forecasting or another analytics team.
    • Experience talking to the media and presenting to academic and business audiences.
