Job Description
As a valued contributor to our Government and Industry Relations team, you will serve as a subject matter expert on mortgage related policy and lead interactions with government and industry groups relevant to Fannie Mae's business. In this role, you will play a central role in tracking key policy issues, working with both internal and external stakeholders, and collaborating across the business to accomplish Fannie Mae's mission, as well as support efforts to identify opportunities or manage potential risks.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE
The Principal, Government and Industry Relations role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments and advise management on the impact to the organization's mission and activities.
- Work cross-functionally across the business to advise teams on matters that could have implications to the company.
- Serve as lead contact for certain government/industry groups and represent the company at key events and stakeholder meetings.
- Draft written updates and brief members of senior management on critical and emerging issues (hearings, meetings, etc.).
Qualifications
THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Minimum Required Experiences
- 8 years of mortgage policy experience providing advice and support in a corporate, advocacy, government, or law firm environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing legislative issues and an understanding of how legislation may apply to Fannie Mae's products, technology, and services.
- Ability to simplify complex topics, provide clear options, and coordinate with third parties such as industry stakeholders and our regulator.
- Strong business acumen and excellent legislative analytical skills.
- Extensive verbal and written presentation skills are essential with the ability to adapt messages to various target audiences, including top executives.
- Strong writing skills; ability to distill complex information (e.g. legislative initiatives, policy proposals, etc.) and summarize it within tight timeframes.
- Strong relationship-building skills; proven experience quickly becoming a trusted advisor across an enterprise.
- Interest and willingness to identify potential weaknesses and opportunities for improvement at Fannie Mae and possessing the skills and demeanor to have difficult conversations, speak candidly and effect change.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Desired Experiences
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent; Juris Doctorate preferred.
- Proven experience leading teams and/or large projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to think strategically and lead teams through complex projects while navigating ambiguous circumstances.
