We are seeking a visionary and highly skilled Senior Director, Data Engineering for our Product Performance team to lead a high-performing team in designing, building, and delivering cutting-edge datasets and data products that drive business outcomes. This role is pivotal in aligning our data engineering strategy with customer-centric principles, ensuring that every dataset and product we develop directly meets the needs of our internal and external stakeholders.
You will play a critical role in shaping our data ecosystem, building scalable and reliable data product, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence. The ideal candidate is not only a master technologist but also a strategic leader who can seamlessly connect data engineering to business value, empowering teams to exceed expectations in a rapidly evolving environment.

Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Data Engineering organization with a focus on customer-centric deliverables.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders in product, analytics, data science, and business units to align engineering efforts with strategic priorities.
- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure success in delivering high-value data solutions and products.
Engineering Excellence
- Lead the design and development of robust, scalable, and performant data pipelines, solutions, and products using best-in-class tools and practices.
- Advocate for data quality, reliability, and accessibility through automation, validation frameworks, and rigorous testing both internally and externally
- Ensure the organization stays at the forefront of emerging trends and technologies in data engineering.
Organizational Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of engineers and technical leaders, creating opportunities for growth and innovation.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Champion diversity and inclusion, ensuring all voices are heard and valued within the team.
Operational Efficiency
- Optimize development workflows to improve delivery speed and quality while reducing operational complexity.
- Establish governance frameworks to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations by partnering with our Data Governance team
- Drive cost efficiency and ROI by balancing innovation with operational excellence.
THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles, managing large, distributed teams.
- Proven success in delivering scalable data platforms, pipelines, and customer-facing data products in enterprise settings
- Deep expertise in modern data engineering tools and technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, Databricks).
- Strong understanding of customer-centric product development and design thinking principles.
- Exceptional ability to translate complex technical solutions into impactful business deliverables.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing competing priorities and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels of the organization.
- Experience in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Knowledge of advanced analytics, machine learning pipelines, and data science workflows
- Background in driving data-driven decision-making within a customer-focused culture in a DTC company

The applicable salary range for this position is $225,000 - $309,100, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
