Distribution Center Operations Manager

The DC Operations Manager serves as the general leader of our 350,000 square foot Distribution Center in Maple Heights, Ohio. The DC Operations Manager leads a team of managers and shift leads across three shifts.  The leader will direct all policy, procedure, and operational aspects of the distribution center to safely achieve company goals while ensuring timely and cost-effective service to all internal & externals customers.  This leader will manage inventory control, shipping and receiving, and full warehouse operations and provide oversight to project improvement initiatives and capital expenditures as well as budget adherence.

Note: Famous Supply Warehouse associates will handle large products such as water heaters, furnaces and showers.

Primary Job Responsibilities 

  • Lead a facility of 100 associates to strong results in distribution and delivery
  • Provide effective leadership of others to ensure efficient distribution operations and adherence to policy, procedure, and process excellence
  • Directs the planning and assignment of work for most efficient use of associates and equipment
  • Ensure well-being of associates through compliance and all safety rules and regulations, legal regulations, and human resources policies across multiple shifts
  • Maintain a safety-oriented operating environment to prevent/minimize associate injuries and workers’ compensation expenses
  • Initiates and provides leadership to monthly DC safety meetings
  • Analyzes labor, inventory and efficiency reports to determine need for process improvements
  • Manage key performance indicators to include safety, productivity/efficiency, budget adherence and inventory control
  • Foster an environment which is conducive to process improvement initiatives
  • Control costs through process improvement initiatives, productivity of associates, efficient utilization of space and protection of stores materials
  • Ensure protection and accuracy of inventory by adhering to all inventory control processes and procedures
  • Regularly assess and manage adequate space requirements for storage of products and develops changes in distribution techniques and practices
  • Ensure facility associates receive appropriate training in all aspects of daily performance.
  • Oversee compliance with company policies and procedures as well as Federal, State, and local laws and statutes
  • Interface with Vice President of Distribution & Logistics on a regular basis regarding facility performance as well as tactical and strategic opportunities
  • Collaborate across all departments to drive optimal productivity
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, retain and develop associates
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels by effectively forecasting resources needed to meet service, financial and operational requirements
  • Ensures housekeeping efforts are sustained so the DC is clean, neat and safe
  • Oversees the maintenance of facility, equipment and fleet as well as DC security and protection
  • Schedules process and product training for DC associates with manufacturers and/or other specialists
  • Cultivate an environment of coaching and mentoring direct reports
  • Responsible for physical maintenance of facility, equipment and fleet
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Experience and Skills 

  • 5+ years in Distribution Center Leadership achieving strong results
  • 10+ years overall distribution experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality
  • Strong servant style leadership with a focus on building and developing a leadership team
  • Strategic planning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage a variety of job responsibilities
  • Exhibits business judgement and ability to drive change throughout an organization
  • Knowledge of all regulations related to transportation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

     

Preferred Experience and Skills 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in operations, business or related field
  • Lean, Six-Sigma or other process background
  • Experience preferred with Warehouse Management Systems (Blue Yonder WMS)
