The newly added Director of Data Governance position will be responsible for developing the framework, establishing and optimizing processes, and scaling the delivery of data governance and management activities across the business. You will lead the effort around the creation, maintenance, and use of critical business data. Additionally, the Director of Data Governance will work with functional business leaders and their teams to drive strong data ownership, enable adoption and governance, and help teams stay connected to the overall program and priorities resulting in business partners being more successful and enabling better data to drive decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop data governance and implementation strategy
  • Determine data elements to be managed and owned through a centralized data governance team vs. data elements managed by functional teams.
  • Recruit, develop and mentor a high performing centralized data governance team.
  • Drive collaboration between functional business teams, resulting in the ability to aggregate and understand differences across data silos
  • Ensure alignment with business and data architecture
  • Oversee delivery priorities and activities to ensure alignment with the broader data governance, technology, and business strategies
  • Develop data governance policies and provide guidance on how to adopt data governance principles across the business
  • Develop a Data Architecture Plan (DAP); setting the rules, policies and standards that govern and define the type of data collected organizationally including how it is used, stored, retained, managed, and integrated.
  • Support data related standards, change management, and resolve concerns of functional business areas
  • Work with executive leadership team, legal team, Information Technology team, and all business areas to support development, approval, execution, and adoption of data strategies and policies
  • Provide requirements to the Information Technology team to enable data governance analysis and delivery
  • Ensure data governance metrics and goals are established, measured, and communicated for accountability and transparency
  • Provide training on data governance best practices to ensure widespread understanding and compliance
  • Support implementation of processes, data modeling, tasks, data flows, dependencies
  • Guide the refinement of the roadmap for data governance based on evolving technology and business needs
  • Enable improved understanding of data literacy, data quality, and data governance and how it brings value across the business
  • Support the professional growth of the Data Governance team and individual contributors by fostering a culture of continuous learning and development

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Management or equivalent experience
  • Significant relevant professional experience in business analysis, master data management, or other related fields
  • Experience with data quality tools, reporting, and data visualization tools
  • Understand complex business processes and systems, determine operational implications and develop processes
  • Knowledge of change management and business transformation
  • Comfortable with highly complex decision making, engaging in multiple initiatives simultaneously, and managing direct and indirect reports
  • Attention to details and accuracy with the ability to spot inconsistencies in large data sets
  • Collaborative and Process Improvement Mindset
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of business
