As a Risk & Control Subject Matter Expert with a Commercial Risk Specialism, you will be part of a core group providing specialised knowledge to solve complex risk and control issues across the business. Your expertise will facilitate risk-based decision-making and ensure consistency in the control environment, applying best practices and shared controls.
This is hybrid role reporting into our Head of Risk & Control SMEs
Work that matters - What you'll be doing
General Risk Expertise - 70%
- Risk Identification & Management: Collaborate with business partners to manage risks, conducting periodic risk assessments to address vulnerabilities.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, supporting FCA/ICO notifications and policy gap analyses.
- Customer Outcomes: Challenge the business to ensure customer outcomes are central to all propositions.
- Exposure Management: Manage complex risk-related loss events, conducting root cause analysis and coordinating response plans.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work with Risk & Control Business Partners, 2LoD teams, and BU Control Specialists to maintain risk and control environment.
- Risk-Based Decision Making: Ensure centralised control strategies are deployed and controls are designed using industry best practices.
- Problem Solving & Analytical Skills: Analyse risk data to identify trends and conduct risk scenario analysis and enhance operational resilience.

Consumer Regulations & Payments Risk Specialism - 30%
- Consumer Protection & Regulatory Compliance: Provide expertise in consumer regulatory compliance, ensuring understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and consumer duty requirements.
- Payment Risk & Fraud: Assess risks associated with payment processing, including fraud, money laundering, and operational failures. Develop fraud detection and prevention strategies.
- Regulatory & Compliance Focus: Ensure adherence to key regulatory frameworks such as PSD2, FCA Consumer Duty, and AML regulations. Support internal audits and regulatory reviews.
- Emerging Risk & Industry Trends: Maintain visibility on industry trends and latest risks in payments and consumer regulations. Provide insights on new payment technologies.

Experience and Skills
What you'll need to bring to the role & Experian
- Risk Management Frameworks & Methodologies: Comprehensive understanding of risk management principles and frameworks (COSO ERM, COBIT, SOX, ISO 31000).
- Regulatory & Internal Policy Compliance: Experience in monitoring and adapting to regulatory changes, interpreting policies, and defining business procedures.
- Communication & Collaboration: Ability to work with different teams and communicate requirements to non-technical colleagues.
- Consumer Regulations & Payments Risk Skills: Expertise in consumer regulatory compliance, payment fraud prevention, and adherence to key regulatory frameworks.

- Experience with risk management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
- Experience in identifying and mitigating enterprise-wide risks.
- Deploy centralised control strategies and design controls.
